Do I need a structural engineer for my house extension or loft conversion?
Yes — most extensions and lofts require a structural engineer to design safe foundations, beams, and supports. We produce structural calculations and drawings that meet Building Control standards and help your builder carry out the work safely and compliantly.
How much does structural design cost for an extension or loft?
Costs vary depending on the size and complexity of your project. Once we review your enquiry, we’ll send you a clear, itemised quote outlining all services required — including drawings, calculations, and any necessary visits or documents.
How long does it take to get my structural calculations?
Once we’ve completed the site visit, your structural drawings are typically delivered within 3–5 working days. We’ll confirm the exact timeline when quoting, and offer support throughout. We cover all London boroughs and confirm timelines at quote stage.
Do I need planning permission for a rear extension or loft conversion?
You may not — many smaller extensions and loft conversions fall under Permitted Development rights, but there are limits on height, depth, and roof alterations. We’ll assess your property and advise whether a full planning application is required.
What is a party wall agreement, and will I need one?
If your work affects a shared wall or boundary (e.g. inserting beams, digging foundations), the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 requires you to notify your neighbour(s). We can serve notices and act as your surveyor if a formal award is needed.
Are your structural engineers chartered and insured?
Yes. All our projects are overseen by Chartered Structural Engineers (CEng MIStructE) and we are fully insured with AXA for professional indemnity and public liability. You’ll receive our certificates and documentation with every quote.
